Frequently Asked Questions
Still unsure about how life insurance or investments work? You’re not alone.
These are the most common questions people ask before they get started and they’re all valid. Whether you’re curious, hesitant, or ready to take action, this page is here to give you clarity and peace of mind. And if you have a question that’s not listed here, feel free to reach out. I’m always happy to help.
I don’t understand insurance terms. Can you explain things in a simple way?
Absolutely! One of the things my clients appreciate most is how I explain everything in plain, simple language. I’ll walk you through each term, policy feature, and benefit using everyday examples.
My goal is to empower you with clear understanding so you can make confident, informed decisions, no financial background required.
Do I really need life insurance even if I’m still young or single?
Yes, and this is one of the smartest times to start. When you’re young and healthy, insurance premiums are at their lowest.
Life insurance isn’t just about death benefits. It can also be a tool to lock in coverage for future health uncertainties, provide financial protection to your loved ones, and even help you build savings through certain plans.
Think of it as laying the groundwork for a stable and secure future, even if you don’t have dependents yet.
What’s the difference between life insurance and health insurance?
While both offer protection, they serve different purposes:
💛 Life insurance provides a financial payout to your beneficiaries if something happens to you.
💛 Health insurance or critical illness coverage helps you during times of illness or medical emergencies.
Both types of protection work hand-in-hand to create a stronger safety net for you and your family.
What if I have a pre-existing condition?
Having a pre-existing condition doesn’t automatically disqualify you. Each application is reviewed individually by Sun Life’s underwriting team.
Some conditions may result in additional requirements, such as medical reports or exams, and in some cases, the policy may come with a slight increase in premium or specific exclusions.
I’ll help you prepare everything transparently and guide you through what to expect—no guesswork, just honest advice.
Do I need to undergo a medical exam?
Not always. For lower coverage amounts and younger applicants with no health concerns, medical exams are often waived.
But if your chosen plan involves higher coverage or you disclose certain conditions, the underwriting team may request a basic medical exam or lab test.
I’ll let you know if that applies to you and help you through the process.
Can I have more than one insurance policy?
Yes, and many clients do. You can combine multiple policies to match your evolving needs. One may focus on protection, another on savings, and another on investment.
I’ll help you structure it in a way that maximizes your benefits without overextending your budget.
I’m not sure what plan is right for me. Can you help me decide?
That’s exactly what I’m here for. Every person’s goals and lifestyle are different, so I don’t offer generic solutions. We’ll have a personal consultation where I’ll ask about your needs, responsibilities, goals, and even your comfort level when it comes to budget.
From there, I’ll recommend options that align with your priorities. No pressure, no upselling, just honest advice tailored to you.
Is there a minimum income requirement to get started?
Not at all. You don’t need to be earning a huge income to start protecting your future. There are plans available for various income levels, including entry-level coverage that fits smaller budgets.
We can always start small and adjust later on as your financial capacity grows. The most important thing is simply getting started. Even with a modest plan, you’re already taking a powerful step.
Can I start with investment-linked plans even if I’m not financially savvy?
Yes, definitely! Investment-linked plans (also called VULs) are designed to combine protection with growth. I’ll guide you through how these plans work, from the life insurance portion to the investment side. You’ll learn about risk levels, fund types, and how to track your plan’s performance.
You don’t need to be an expert; you just need someone to explain it clearly and honestly (that’s where I come in!).
What’s the difference between VUL and traditional life insurance?
Traditional life insurance offers fixed coverage with guaranteed benefits and premiums. VUL (Variable Universal Life) policies offer life insurance plus an investment component, allowing your money to grow over time.
VULs are ideal if you’re looking for long-term growth along with protection, while traditional plans work well for those who want guaranteed results with no market exposure.
What documents do I need to prepare when applying for insurance?
Most applications require a valid government-issued ID and basic personal information. If a medical exam is needed, I’ll guide you on how to schedule it and what to expect. Don’t worry. I’ll help you prepare everything from start to finish.
How long does it take to get my plan approved?
Approval timelines can vary based on the type of product and your personal health declaration:
💛 For mutual fund applications, processing usually takes about three business days, especially if done through online channels like eKYC.
💛 For life insurance, if no medical exam is required, approval may happen within a few days.
💛 For applications requiring full medical underwriting, the process may take 4 to 6 weeks, and in rare cases, up to 3 months.
I’ll keep you updated the entire time, so you’re never left wondering what’s next.
How do I know when I’m officially covered?
Once your application is approved and all necessary documents and payments are submitted, you’ll receive an official Policy Contract from Sun Life. I’ll also personally notify you once everything is confirmed. If there are any delays or clarifications needed, I’ll be right there to assist so you never have to chase updates or feel unsure.
Can I still make changes to my plan later?
Yes! Your life will change and your plan should grow with you. If you get married, have a child, change careers, or take on new responsibilities, we can review your current plan and adjust your coverage or benefits accordingly. Flexibility is important, and I’ll make sure your plan stays aligned with your real-life goals.
What if I move abroad, will my policy still be valid?
Yes, your Sun Life insurance policy can still remain active even if you move overseas, as long as you continue to pay your premiums. Just let me know if you’re relocating so I can help you manage your policy properly and check if there are any jurisdiction-specific updates that apply.
